The May Pedagogical Innovations Journal Club article is “Distributed Concept Reviews Improve

Exam Performance” published in 2016 in Teaching of Psychology. The author designed a strategy

to distribute concept reviews within the structure of her teaching. These concept reviews, with

topics chosen randomly from previous course topics, were introduced at the beginning of every

class. When comparing the results of students who received the concept reviews to those who did

not, the author found that the students who received the concept reviews performed better on

exams. Furthermore, they found that the more often a concept was introduced, the more likely

students were to answer exam questions related to that concept correctly. We will discuss the

implications of these findings for your teaching.
