Article: Computers and productivity: Evidence from laptop use in the college classroom
The November Pedagogical Innovations Journal Club will discuss the article “Computers and productivity: Evidence from laptop use in the college classroom” published in 2017 in the Economics of Education Review. The authors take advantage of multiple classes with different laptop polices to determine the effect of laptop use on student academic performance. The three different policies were: laptops not allowed, laptops required, and laptops optional. They found students required to use laptops in class performed significantly worse, and students who are asked to not use their laptops performed significantly better, than students who are not affected by a laptop policy. We will discuss the implications of this article for your teaching. You may also participate via WebEx.
