Professional Development

Earn a certificate and develop teaching skills that you can use immediately through our TA and Postdoc Professional Development Program and Designing and Delivering Online Learning Certificate Program. If you are pursuing a career in academia, the Preparing Future Faculty Program offers credit-bearing courses that develop teaching expertise and explore the faculty role.

Academic English

If you are a multilingual international graduate student or postdoc, CEI has resources and programs to support you as you navigate teaching in English within UMN’s educational culture. Because UMN has a language requirement for teaching assistants, we provide testing (Spoken English Test for TAs) and required courses through the International Teaching Assistant Program for those whose English Language Proficiency Rating is less than a “1”.  We also offer workshops on English Pronunciation for Academics.

Teaching Resources & Webinars

Use our multimedia self-paced teaching resources as guides for research-based and practical support for instruction, gathering student feedback, or writing a teaching philosophy. Or join UMN colleagues in a pedagogically-focused workshop that we offer centrally or bring to your department, college, or campus.

Consultations

CEI consultants can meet with you individually to address teaching questions on any topic, such as student engagement or grading more efficiently and effectively. Work with a CEI consultant to establish a teaching-focused discussion series for graduate instructors and TAs in your department.
