As one of the interim co-directors at the Center for Educational Innovation, Kate works with the vice provost for faculty and academic affairs and academic leadership systemwide to shape and support the educational priorities of the University and of the academic units at each of the five campuses. She aligns CEI staff expertise and resources with the teaching-related opportunities and goals of the UMN teaching community. Within CEI, she oversees strategic plan implementation with a particular focus on expanding CEI support at UMN campuses in Crookston, Duluth, Morris, and Rochester.
Kate also collaborates on the design and facilitation of workshops and webinars, faculty and instructor programs, and teaching-related events. In 2010, she co-created a robust and on-going faculty program for Internationalizing Teaching and Learning about which she has published and presented nationally. Most recently, she and colleagues offered a national workshop, Reimagining Teaching and Learning in Globally Diverse Classes, and a UMN Duluth retreat, Reimagine Your Course Using Learning Design Principles.
Kate’s academic discipline is teaching English to speakers of other languages. She teaches both face-to-face and online graduate courses in the International Teaching Assistant Program. She has lived and worked abroad in Spain and India.
