Biography

Alyssa (she/her) is an Education Program Specialist who provides consulting, workshops, and courses for graduate students, faculty, and instructors. She is the program coordinator and an instructor in the International Teaching Assistant (ITA) Program, which supports language and pedagogy development of international teaching assistants at the U of M. Alyssa values being in community with instructors, via individual consultations, unit-level partnerships, and campus-wide initiatives, to promote student success through evidence-based teaching practices. She is particularly interested in student engagement and belongingness, with attention to the international student experience; mental health and wellbeing for learners and instructors; the role of metacognition in learning; curriculum development and revision; peer review of teaching; and online teaching practices. 

Alyssa holds an MA in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Minnesota and a BS in Landscape Architecture from the University of Wisconsin. She has nearly 20 years of experience teaching in higher education and providing online professional development for K-Higher Ed professionals.
