James is the Instructional Media Designer at the Center for Educational Innovation (CEI), where he produces media that supports engaged learning and effective teaching across the University. He leads CEI’s Instructional Media Production service, collaborating with faculty, staff, and academic units to create a wide range of instructional content—from interactive learning modules to inclusive training videos—tailored to elevate both classroom and online education.
James has contributed to several high-profile, University-wide teaching initiatives, including multimedia resources promoting civil discourse in the classroom. His collaborations with the Office for Equity and Diversity and the College of Veterinary Medicine have advanced inclusive pedagogy and curriculum design through accessible and engaging media.
A strong advocate for innovation in education, James is involved in exploring the role of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning. He co-led a study on AI-generated feedback in clinical instruction and continually integrates emerging AI tools into media production and instructional workflows.
James earned his degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Minnesota and has worked in academic technology since 2013. Before joining CEI, he spent five years in Academic Technology producing curriculum media.
