The Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) Program assists graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in developing teaching skills and exploring the faculty role at the college or university level. You'll discuss learning theory and strategies, develop teaching skills, create classroom and job search materials, and work with faculty from a range of institutional types. By completing the program, you can expect to gain a realistic perspective on the skills required for success as a faculty member.
Core Courses
Preparing Future Faculty courses are offered in both fully online and hybrid formats. Use Class Search in MyU for information about the format for current sections.
To receive a letter of recognition and certificate of program participation, you’ll complete the program’s two core courses:
- GRAD 8101: Teaching in Higher Education
- Offered in the Fall and Spring semesters. 3 credits. Fully online with weekly Zoom meetings or hybrid with weekly Zoom meetings and some face-to-face meetings on the Minneapolis campus.
- GRAD 8200: Practicum for Future Faculty
- Offered in the Spring Semester. 1 credit. Fully online with monthly Zoom meetings. Requires completion of GRAD 8101.
Elective Courses
GRAD 8200 “Teaching for Learning” offers students an online asynchronous introduction to teaching theory and methods. It is not required for the PFF certificate and should not be taken in addition to GRAD 8101.
